The label

Rattle Records has been releasing contemporary art music for 15 years. The label has released a series of ground-breaking albums, particularly in contemporary classical, taonga pouro (Maori instruments) and more recently jazz and electronica based forms. Rattle’s artistic direction has a Pacific focus, while its performance and presentation standards are inspired by the best European art music labels. Historically producing a limited number of boutique releases, in recent years the label has committed to increasing both the number and scale of its projects.

While Rattle’s catalogue is relatively small, the label’s output has consistently enjoyed critical acclaim, with three releases being awarded NZ CLASSICAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR in the NZ Music Awards, and Te Ku Te Whe a gold disc.

Rattle is working towards the establishment of NZ as a centre of excellence in art music.

Big respect to Rattle, a record company which has been releasing New Zealand recordings ...beyond the regimented lines of classical and contemporary boxes for some years now.
